"My work explores how a certain form of oppression is rooted in these images and can be intended as a new approach to activism that is focused on the perception of the body, as well as its representation through the image. After all, systems of power and oppression are reproduced by our bodies on a daily basis.
Through my work, covering models’ bodies and faces with paper masks and paint brushstrokes, I want to denunce the artificiality of the images and the “overdose of beauty” that penetrates contemporary society through media. From this point of view, my intervention becomes symbolic: the ideal solution to “disguise” destabilized identities.
My figures, immersed in abstract or naturalistic and floral worlds, gain a new life and tell new stories, evoking new moods and sensations.
The bodies become the matrix of origin for a different vision, a subverted message, a new aesthetic concept born from the stratification of different cultural references and different materials: paper, acrylic and oil paint. The rough, irregular, full-bodied oil paint brushstrokes together with the smooth, flat, highly pigmented acrylic textures convey a tactile, physical sensation. All these layers of colors, different textures, and materials make the paper heavier and meatier, building new matter and unveiling new meanings."
